- The finished Mushroom Pal will be approximately 30 cm (12 inches) tall when made with the recommended yarn and hook. Your gauge isn’t critical, but try to keep your stitches consistent for a beautifully shaped toy.

We’ll start with the legs, crocheting two identical pieces before joining them.

Putting It All Together
Now for the magical part, bringing all our pieces together to create your charming mushroom pal!
- Attach the Head: Carefully position the head onto the top of the body. Use the long tail left on the head and your tapestry needle to sew the head securely to the body. Take your time, making sure it’s centered and firmly attached.
- Place the Hat: Position the hat onto the head. The beige brim, with its longer double crochet section, should face forward, and the single crochet section should be at the back, closer to the neck. Angle it slightly backward for a whimsical look. Sew the hat firmly to the head, about 2-3 rounds above the safety eyes. You can also add a few stitches at the very top back of the hat to gently secure it to the head, allowing it to maintain its charming angle.
- Add the Collar: Wrap the ruffled collar around your mushroom’s neck. You can tie it in a pretty bow at the front or back, or use the tail to sew it discreetly in place for a neat finish.
- Sew on the Spots: Arrange your crocheted spots onto the red part of the hat. Play around with different sizes and placements until you’re happy with the design. Then, use your tapestry needle and the tails from the spots to sew them securely onto the hat.

- Tension is Key for Plush Yarn: When working with plush yarn, keeping a consistent tension is even more important to avoid gaps where stuffing might show through. If you find your stitches are too loose, try going down half a hook size. If they’re too tight, go up half a size!
- Eye Placement for Personality: Before securing your safety eyes, take a moment to play with their placement. Move them up, down, closer, or further apart. Even a slight adjustment can change your mushroom’s entire expression! Once you’re happy, push them firmly into place and attach the washers.
- Stuffing for Shape: Don’t be shy with your polyfill! Stuff each piece very firmly, especially the head and body, to achieve a smooth, rounded shape. Use small pieces of stuffing to avoid lumps, and use the back of your hook or a chopstick to push stuffing into tight corners like the legs.
