Ingredients

- 1 cup of basmati rice
- 2 cups of water
- 1 tablespoon of oil
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 bay leaf
Instructions
- Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a pot, heat the oil over medium heat.
- Add the bay leaf and sauté for a minute.
- Add the rinsed rice and stir for 2 minutes.
- Pour in 2 cups of water and add salt.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
- Cover the pot and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let it sit for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
Notes
- Rinsing rice removes excess starch and prevents stickiness.
- Adjust water for softer or firmer rice.
- Letting rice sit after cooking improves texture.
