- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional for thickening)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Shape the mixture into patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
- In a skillet, cook the patties over medium heat for about 5 minutes on each side until browned.
- Remove patties and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add beef broth and bring to a simmer.
- If desired, mix cornstarch with a little water and stir into the broth to thicken.
- Return the patties to the skillet and simmer for another 10 minutes.
- Serve the hamburger steaks hot, with the gravy poured over them.
Notes
- Make sure not to overmix the beef mixture to keep the patties tender.
- You can add garlic powder for extra flavor.
- Serve with mashed potatoes or rice for a complete meal.
