Description

A simple and delicious cinnamon buns recipe using active dry yeast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir in yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add melted butter, salt, and egg to the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually mix in flour until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Roll the dough tightly and cut into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Mix powdered sugar and milk to make icing.
  12. Drizzle icing over warm buns before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure your milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
  • Don’t skip the rising time; this makes the buns fluffy.
