Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully place the cabbage head in the water for 2-3 minutes until the leaves soften.
  2. Remove the cabbage from the water and let it cool. Carefully peel off 10-12 leaves.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Place a few tablespoons of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf. Roll the leaf tightly and tuck in the sides to seal.
  5. In a large pot, mix tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Place cabbage rolls seam side down in the pot.
  6. Cover the rolls with remaining sauce and add enough water to cover them.
  7. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
  8. Remove from heat and let sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use a sharp knife to easily cut the cabbage leaves.
  • Don’t overfill the cabbage leaves to avoid breaking them.
  • Feel free to add herbs like dill for extra flavor.
